In loving memory of Shane Michael Crowl

Shane Michael Crowl, 49, of Stow, Ohio, passed away suddenly on March 4, 2025. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family, friends and colleagues, but his remarkable legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Shane was born on August 25, 1975, in Akron, Ohio, to Margaret and Jerry Crowl. A 1994 graduate of Stow High School, he went on to attend Kent State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Advertising with a minor in Marketing. It was through Kent State’s entertainment program that Shane discovered his passion for live music production - an interest that would evolve into an extraordinary career, spanning more than two decades.

Over the years, Shane worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry, including Billy Joel, Aerosmith, Mariah Carey, Tears for Fears, and A$AP Rocky, amongst many others. In 2020, he became a partner at Motion Music, where he played a pivotal role in shaping world-class productions. Most recently, Shane served as the Production Director for ODESZA, a position he held since 2017.

Shane had an extraordinary understanding of the creative process and was able to make the impossible possible. His expertise, problem-solving skills and attention to detail, allowed artists to bring their vision to life in a way they had never imagined. He was a leader, a mentor and a rock for those who worked alongside him. Held in the highest regard by his peers and crew, Shane was known for his ability to balance creative ambition with technical precision, ensuring that every production exceeded expectations. His impact on live music production will be felt for years to come.

Beyond his professional achievements, Shane was a man of unwavering integrity, loyalty and dedication. His sharp intellect, no-nonsense honesty and deep sense of accountability, made him an anchor for those around him.

Outside of work, Shane had developed a passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After more than a decade of practice, he earned his black belt in December 2024, from Top Level Jiu-Jitsu - an achievement that reflected his discipline, perseverance, and relentless pursuit of excellence.

Shane is survived by his parents, Jerry and Margaret Crowl; his brother David Crowl (Diane); his beloved nieces and nephew, Alexis, Brooke and Nathan Crowl, as well as his extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will forever cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Alex and Frances McAleer; Bill and Margaret Crowl, and extended family.
