Ruby Sky Redington, 26, of Akron, passed away July 25 2023 following her hard fought battle with addiction. Born on December 26, 1996 she was a gift to all those that knew her and if you knew her then you loved her. She had a fiery spirit wrapped up in a warm heart that she used to love fiercely. Her laughter and smile could instantly brighten the room, and thankfully she shared both freely. She had a wanderlust that caused her to never want to settle down in one spot for very long and a love for nature that led her to the woods and outdoors. She enjoyed hiking, bonfires, swimming, ice skating, gardening, sweating at sweat lodges, losing herself in music, and a good cup of coffee. A true animal lover at heart she never missed a chance to interact with critters, whether it was catching and releasing bullfrogs, rescuing baby ducks, or just loving every fur baby she met. A self proclaimed hippie with an eclectic sense of style she always stood out in a crowd as her natural beauty exuded off of her. She graduated from Southeast Local High School in Portage County where she had many friends. She had early aspirations to become a social worker to help troubled youth and later dreamt of becoming a park ranger. Unfortunately, Ruby very openly struggled with addiction. Although she fought her own demons throughout the years she still managed to touch many hearts and lives with her kindness and love. She met many people on her road to recovery and they learned what her family always knew that Ruby was a beautiful soul inside and out- a wild flower picked way too soon. Those of us left behind are hurting but Ruby's pain and suffering are over and her soul can finally find peace.
Ruby was preceded in death by many loved ones including her grandparents, Florence Waters, Eva Davis, Dean and Eleanor Ritchie, and fathers John Ritchie and Timothy Frederick. She is survived by her mother’s Margaret Ritchie and Virginia Redington; aunt Doris Tomlinson, Grandmother Sue Nation; siblings Philip (Jamie) Davis, Amanda (Jeremy) Corcoran, Drew Redington; her nieces Katie, Maggie, Zoe, Madilyn, Lillian, and Emmelyn; many other aunts and uncles, cousins, and countless friends and loved ones.
Those wishing to say goodbye can pay respects Tuesday, August 15 from 12-2pm at Adams Mason Funeral home, 791 East Market St, Akron, OH 44305, for a viewing. A private celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 19. A special thanks to those of you (and you know who you are) who supported Ruby in her sobriety and never gave up on her.
