On November 18, 2024, Richmond closed his eyes to sleep. When he opened his eyes he was in the arms of our Savior Jesus Christ. Gazing at his glorious face, Richmond blinked, then his beautiful smile lit up his face and he said “Thank you for bringing me home.”
Richmond Davis is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Judith Macro Davis. In life, Richmond was a kind, loving, and devoted husband, father, and son. Richmond loved life and enjoyed spending time with his wife Judith Ann. He was raised in Atlanta, Georgia, before later moving to Akron where he lived for many years. He worked for many years at the University of Akron Graduate School of Business, known as the CBA. He had an infectious laugh that echoed everywhere he went. Those of us who were closest to him remember the things that made him happy and alive: Cleveland sports teams, running errands with Judith, taking care of his house and the yard, ribs and corn bread, seeing his children and grandchildren grow up, and watching TV in his easy chair.
Judith prayed and God answered. God blessed Judith with Richmond, a caring, sensitive, and loving husband. A man of faith and integrity, always seeking God’s will. God sent Richmond to Judith and she is thankful that Richmond provided for her, sacrificed for her, and loved her unconditionally as he had been instructed by his Heavenly Father and his earthly father. Richmond’s Father and Mother would have been so proud of the man they called son. Judith will always remember their time on Earth and she now rejoices that he is with the Lord.
Richmond always tried to help others and make the world a better place. He attended the Chapel in Akron and had a very strong relationship with the Lord. Richmond worked with many international students at the CBA and helped them with anything they needed and made sure they had a place to stay and he helped them with all of their classes. His supervisor said that “Richmond raised them well.” He loved to talk about his Mother Alice Coachman, who won Olympic Gold in 1948. He wrote a book “A Journey to Gold,” honoring his Mother’s story and success. He wrote another book about his Father’s family, chronicling their journey to Little Street and Beyond. Richmond’s parents were kind and caring and taught him strong family values and a strong connection with God. He will be remembered by all of those people he touched. His spirit and his light will shine forever with God and we will never forget his life and how he lived it to the fullest.
We will close with one of Richmond’s favorite Bible verses:
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 KJV.
Richmond is in heaven walking and running with renewed strength.
A celebration of his life will be held in the near future. Condolences may be sent to 870 Sovereign Road, Akron, OH 44303.
