Patrick Benjamin Gordon

August 26, 1981 — September 5, 2024

Patrick Benjamin Gordon, age 43, of Wooster, Ohio, passed away the morning of September 5, 2024 at home surrounded by his family after a 3 and a half year hard fought battle with colorectal cancer and an acute illness, 9 days after celebrating his 43rd birthday with his dearest family and friends.

Patrick was born August 26, 1981 in Wooster, Ohio. He grew up in Wooster, and attended Triway Local Schools, graduating from Triway High School in 2000. While in high school, Patrick played soccer, was on student council, and joined ski club. In 9th grade art class he became friends with his future wife, Candace, and they started dating shortly thereafter. With grit and perseverance, he put himself through college, and graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He worked for Moog Flo-Tork in Sales and Marketing in Orrville for over 16 years.

Seeking knowledge was inherent for Patrick, enriching lives around him by sharing what he learned. He loved to travel, and was great at discovering fun places and adventures. He took his family on countless road trips, both near and far.

Patrick’s quick wit kept his family, friends, and coworkers laughing. He and his brother Garrett would often laugh so hard together they cried. Patrick’s boys, Liam and Elliot, loved joking and laughing with him. His kids were his greatest joy and source of pride. Being a present and loving father, providing for his family, being loyal and dependable, and having a happy, healthy marriage were Patrick's highest priorities in life.

In his teens and twenties, Patrick enjoyed mountain biking and attending concerts and events. He took pleasure in sharing his love of bikes. Patrick and Candace towed their boys in a bike trailer on paved trails when the boys were little, and once the kids were able to ride, they took weekend bike rides together. In addition, Patrick enjoyed jogging and weight training, visiting the beach and swimming in the ocean, hiking nature trails, spending time with his brothers, watching Formula 1 races with his dad, and just being with his kids. (In 2022, he made the trip to Austin to watch a Formula 1 race with his dad Kevin, uncle Ken, and brother Winston.)

Patrick was a great listener, and people often confided in him. Helping others was natural for him, especially children and animals. In 2012, Patrick participated in the Warrior Dash and raised close to $1000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, inspiring his brother, Winston, to raise significant funds and participate in the Warrior Dash with Patrick the following year. In 2013, Patrick ran the Warrior Dash again and raised over $1500 for St. Jude.

Patrick is survived and will be infinitely missed by his wife and best friend, Candace Gordon, and their awesome sons Liam and Elliot Gordon, both of the home, his dad, Kevin Gordon (Georgia Stefanik) of Wooster, brothers, Garrett Polen (Morgan), Winston Gordon of Nashville, TN, and Sawyer Polen (Cassie) of Wooster, Mother and Stepfather, Barb and Bruce Polen of Wooster, mother-in-law, Debbie Starcher (Roy) of Wooster, father-in-law Stan Fries (Robin) of Wooster, brother-in-law Nate Fries (Serena Sword) of Massillon, and nephews Anderson, Sullivan, Memphis, Braxley, and Bennett, plus aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mildred and Keith Gordon, maternal grandparents Charles and Grace Berry, and step-grandpa Herald Polen.

Patrick’s family wants to thank everyone at the Cleveland Clinic for their outstanding care, dedication, and kindness. Patrick felt genuinely cared for, and enjoyed getting to know each person involved in his care, learning their names and remembering specific details and anecdotes about them.
