Neal Johnson, 85 of Akron, Ohio, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 23, 2024. Neal was born in Buffalo, New York and resided in Akron most of his life. He attended Garfield High School and worked for Reiter and Harter Dairy in the early 60’s. Neal was an avid Union member working with the Ironworkers Local #17 where he was a proud member for 55 years. Neal enjoyed gardening, boating, and cars, especially his Cadillacs. He loved his dogs but his family was his true pride and joy. Neal was preceded in death by his parents William and Jessie Johnson, siblings Fred Johnson and Martha Smiley, his second wife Debra and his daughter Tonya (Kevin) Green. Neal leaves behind his loving wife Donna, his children Donald (Kathy), Monica (Ed) Brown, and Neal Jr; his brother Hugh Johnson; half brother David Johnson; half sister Frances Johnson, and special niece Dee-Dee. Neal also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Angie (Chuck) Zittle, Shawn Green, Heather (Christopher) Doyle, Brandon, Jessie Johnson, Sara Brown, Jennifer (Nick) Seeling and Nikole Johnson. His great grandchildren Brittany (Shay) Sharp, Kelsey Zittle, Charles Zittle Jr, Nathaniel (Caitlyn) Doyle, Alexis Corathers, Mikayla and Tyler Seeling, Anthony Green. As well as his great-great grandchildren Lucas, Landon, and Avery Sharp and a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and Union Brothers. Visitation will be 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM Monday, January 29, 2024 at the Adams Mason Funeral Home (791 East Market Street), where funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM. Pastor Dwayne Ray will officiate. Neal will be laid to rest with military honors at 9:15 AM on Tuesday at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
