Mary Jane Miner

Mary Jane Miner, 73, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on August 9, 2023. Born in Canton in 1950, Mary attended St. John’s Elementary School and graduated from McKinley Senior High School in 1968. Mary was a retired nurse and dedicated caregiver for her grandchildren, a woman of remarkable empathy and positivity.

Mary was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 45, but refused to be limited by the disease. She greeted each day as an opportunity and tenaciously continued walking until the time of her passing. Deeply committed to her church, Mary taught Sunday school classes, drawing spiritual strength and resolve from her faith.  Mary loved camping, fishing, swimming, and the joy of a blue sky and a cool breeze.  As a young mom, she delighted in neighborhood bike rides and visits to Canton’s parks with her children.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Elizabeth and Charles J. Laher, and her siblings, Jimmy and Linda.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Miner, and her three children, Stephanie Ascani (Miller), Brett Miller, and Charlie Miller.  She had 7 grandchildren – Claire, Olivia, Zoë, Mark, Michael, Simon, and Anna – all of whom she adored. She also leaves behind her lifelong friend, Kathi, and her surviving siblings, Judy, Pat, David, Paul, and Liz.

In accordance with her wishes, Mary's organs have been donated, and cremation has already taken place. A private service, dedicated to honoring Mary's memory, will be held at her church.
