He was born June 9, 1945 in the Belgian/West End of Mishawaka, Indiana to the late Richard and Marilyn Vande Putte. He was known as “Son” or “Jimmy”. His siblings Steven (Sue), Nora, Mark (Jan), Matt (deceased) (Cynthia), and Dana called him “Brother”. You might know him as “Jim” or “Van”. He worked at various locations and positions with Montgomery Ward for 32+ years…turning off the lights and locking the door on their final day in 2001. He also worked at Sofa Express and retired when it had a final day. Our journey started in Michigan in 1965. He knew me as Ann Salamon. We married on September 9, 1967 and I called him “Husband”. Our children, Chandi (Brian) Collins, and Brian (Rachel) knew him as “Dad” or “Pop”. Our grandchildren Kiley (Ian) Glassford and Jae/Lauren Collins - Knight knew him as “Lucky Grandpa”. Our special family Najat knew him as “Dad/Mr. V”, and Dino as “Jim”. Others would call him “Friend”. Brother-in-law Ted Salamon called him both “Brother” and “Friend”. Together we formed a family of love and caring. Jim passed away at home surrounded by his family on January 3, 2025. There will be no calling hours as Jim’s spirit must rest. As a family, we will take him to Weko Beach in Michigan (where we met and it all started), for a celebration of life with Sand, Water, and maybe a brewski. Special thanks to all our wonderful support and caregivers from Hospice of the Western Reserve. Arrangements entrusted to Adams Mason Funeral Home (330) 535-9186
