Frederick Eugene Matthews Jr

Fred Matthews passed away after a brief illness on September 1, 2023 surrounded by family.
He was born in Akron, Ohio on August 11,1946. He graduated from Springfield High School. Following graduation he enlisted in the Marines and went to Vietnam where he was stationed in Chu Lai. Upon his return from Vietnam he was employed by P.I.E. Trucking, and then Akron Police Department.
He retired from the police force after an injury in 1996.
He had a passion for animals, traveling, camping, throwing darts, working in his wood shop, women and food!!
Fred was proceeded in death by his father, Frederick Matthews Sr, his mother Ruth Matthews, brother Gerald Matthews, and the love of his life Mary Beth Matthews.
He is survived by ex wife Kathy Williams (Larry), daughter Ginger Bondurant, favorite son in law Scott, daughter Bethany Matthews, grandson Joe McCullough (Petra), granddaughter Kennedy Bondurant, and his little joy his great grandson Leo.
He is also survived by his ugly sister (even though she insists she’s the beautiful one) Ann Ikey (Ron), 6 nephews and 4 nieces and lastly Erna Beke, who will always have a special place in his heart.

Fred was always grateful for the bond he had with both the Pelfrey and Kirkwood families.

If you knew Fred, you loved him.
He was the life of the party, and will be missed deeply.

Cremation has taken place.
