Evelyn A. Bachtel, 76, of Akron, Ohio passed away September 17, 2022. Evey was a shining light in this world. She loved music, enjoyed singing, especially with the church choir. She graduated from Kenmore High School, attended Akron University, and held dear many "Class of '64" friendships throughout her life. Evey worked as a telephone operator at Ohio Bell, as a stay at home "PTA" mom and paper carrier. She returned to work as a Rite-Aid drug store cashier, retiring as a proud member of the U.F.C.W. Union. Retirement to Evelyn was reading, movies, scrabble, talking with sons Jimmy and Bryan, cooking, and baking the best pies and cookies ever! Her prolific readings yielded recipes, current events, cartoons, poems, wise words of wisdom, bible verses, and quotes of writings past and present which she posted throughout the house for all to see. She enjoyed tending her tiny garden and watching, with her cat Wags, the birds and butterflies that visited.
Evelyn loved her family, church, and community. Her "Helping Hand" extended to all. She enjoyed having a good meal, always talking and laughing with whomever was at the table. She lived by the Golden Rule and the virtues of "Faith, Hope, and Charity", always encouraging others to do the same.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward J. and Ruth Ruff; father-in-law and mother-in-law William E. and Martha Bachtel; and many other in-laws, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, James Bachtel; sons James, Jr. and Bryan; grandchildren Brett, Jacquelyn, and Jessica and their children; sisters Diane Queer (Harold deceased) and Patty (Marc) Newman; brother Ed Ruff (Blanche deceased); special niece Val Bittner; many cousins, nieces and nephews and their children.
The family thanks all the doctors, nurses, caregivers, and friends who cared for Evelyn over many years.
