Elson J. Hershberger of Akron, age 61, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Elson was born on January 6, 1963, in Canton to John E. and Anna Mae (Sommers) Hershberger.
Elson was brilliantly gifted by God to design and build single family homes. After years of being a rough framing carpenter, he and his wife, Michelle, started their building company, Efficient Homes, in 1989, which they operated until 2006. They then started Rockland Homes in 2010. During his lifetime, over 2,000 homes were designed and built by Elson. He always had a pad of graph paper and pencil at hand to draw his designs.
Elson was passionate about fishing. Lake Erie walleye, Lake Ontario salmon, Outer Banks tuna, British Columbia halibut, and Lake Okeechobee bass fishing. Besides these memorable outings, he also shared a trip of a lifetime with his family to Alaska.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 36 years, Michelle; daughter, Katelyn, and son, Seth. He is also survived by his father, John E. Hershberger, sister Priscilla (Ralph) Jackson, brothers John (Jody) and Joe (Gayle). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Anna Mae Hershberger, and brother, Tim.
