Passing away peacefully on Thursday, January 23, 2025, Elaine D. Meggyesy, 94, of Wooster, Ohio, was surrounded by members of her beloved family as she headed back home to be with those who left before her.
To call Elaine a community cornerstone would fail to truly capture the full breadth of work and involvement she consistently poured into the multiple roles she held throughout her life. As a secretary for the Triway Junior High School, Elaine showed up every day with an irreplaceable zeal and dedicated passion to help shape and empower the next generation of minds for over 30 years before retiring in 2011. Stepping into the role as one of the school’s lead cheerleading advisors during her time at Triway, Elaine helped cultivate a special experience for each former member of her team, teaching important life lessons and guiding their efforts in creating something bigger than themselves. From taking on advisor positions with the school’s National Jr. Honor Society, Student Council, and its Annual Washington DC Trip to holding the position of President for the former Shreve Lions Club and Shreve Friends of the Library organizations, Elaine was, and still is, a foundational pillar of a community that continues to grow and flourish just as she would have wanted.
Aside from the many responsibilities she took on during her time with us, Elaine’s most cherished accomplishment was undoubtedly her family. A loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Elaine was the glue that ensured all the pieces of her wide-ranging family puzzle fit together—whether they liked it or not. Compassionate, understanding, lively, and fierce, Elaine’s legacy lives on through those who loved and will miss her the most. Elaine is survived by her son Steven (Gina) Meggyesy; daughter Karen (Tim Latimore) Meggyesy; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; as well as many other family members and friends.
So as we all continue on through this next phase of life, let’s first raise a toast to a full and abundant life lived as Elaine continues her journey in entirety, patiently waiting for the rest of us—Jello shots in hand.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
