Dorothy Ellen (Collins) Light, 88, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio passed away on February 29, 2024. She was born on April 5, 1935, to the late Millicent M. (Preece) and William Collins of Gloucester, England.
Dorothy was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother (Grams) and she will be sadly missed by all. She is survived by her son, Michael G. Light (Terri) and daughter, Julie A. Miller (Brian), and her six grandchildren, Brittany Miller, Sarah Miller, Jeremy Light, Madison Light, Michaela Light and Kyle Light. Preceded in death by her husband, Chandos G. Light, son, Paul E. Light, daughter-in-law, Julie Light and brother, Derek Collins.
She met the love of her life, Chandos (Glenn) at the Fairford American Air Base near Tuxberry, England in January, 1958. Six weeks later they were engaged and then married on July 12, 1958, in Gloucester, England. After the wedding the couple came to Savannah, Georgia and established their life together.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends celebrating special occasions and going on any outings. She loved gardening and making sure her birds outside were taken care of. She loved being a part of her church family, working in the nursery and helping with the Cherub Choir and Epworth Choir. She loved game day with friends and family. She also loved baking and entertaining.
She was a member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association (TBPA) for GI brides (British Club), the O’Neil’s Retirement Club, Gardening Club and Swim Therapy at the Natatorium.
Calling hours and service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd on March 30, 2024. Calling hours will be from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. and the service will begin at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Dorothy Light to the American Cancer Society for the support that her husband and daughter-in-law received during their cancer treatments.
