Donald Lastocy

October 25, 1934 — January 2, 2025

Donald Lastocy passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on January 2, 2025.

He was born on October 25, 1934 to the late Lawrence J. and Mary (Simon) Lastocy. He was predeceased by his younger sister, Rosemary (Lastocy) Robinson. Don was happily married for 68 years to his high school sweetheart, Joan (Horner) Lastocy, who passed away on February 15, 2024.

Don graduated from Akron Garfield High School (1953) where he was captain of the football team before attending and graduating from The University of Akron with a degree in Industrial Management. Don started his career as a detective for the Pennsylvania Railroad but switched careers and started working for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. when the Railroad wanted to relocate him. He worked for Firestone for 16 years. Don decided to make another career switch when he became a partner at A&A Builders and worked there until he retired. After retirement he started his favorite job of all - working part time at Mayfair Country Club. Don loved golf.

Don was an active member of High Street Christian Church and First Congregational Church in Akron. He also dedicated countless hours serving those in need through the Good Neighbors Organization. Don loved to dine out, travel, and enjoyed a vodka martini up with a couple of olives. Most of all, though, he loved his family. He loved spending his time with his two granddaughters. It didn’t matter if they were racing golf carts, learning to drive in an empty parking lot, betting on horses, eating ice cream at Strickland's, or throwing peanut shells on the ground of their favorite restaurant, they were always laughing and having fun.

Don is survived by his devoted daughter Victoria Turlik (John), two granddaughters Lauren Cosgrove (Bill) and Courtney Buckhout (Christian) and four great granddaughters, Charlotte (4 yrs), Cecelia (3 yrs), Abigail (2 yrs) and Caroline (1 yr). He will be missed by his family, his many friends, and especially by the community at The Village of St. Edward in Fairlawn where he and Joan lived since September 2021.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Village of St. Edward Foundation, 3131 Smith Road, Fairlawn, OH 44333.
