Coolidge “Calvin, Bug” Collins Jr. gained his heavenly wings on May 21, 2024
Coolidge was born in Birmingham, AL on December 26, 1949, to the union of Eloise and Coolidge Collins Sr. He was a 1967 graduate of Akron Buchtel High School. School was very important to him. He excelled academically in high school and beyond. He had a thirst for knowledge and was known to be an avid reader and knew information on any topic. If you asked him a question and he didn’t have the answer, he would research and come back with the answer to your question.
Calvin was reserved, cool, calm, and collected. He had a way of making others feel accepted and important. He was the vault. Your secrets were safe with him. For as passionate as he was about education, fatherhood and family ranked even higher. He was an amazing father and father figure, who played an active part in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He took great care of his siblings and was the caretaker of his mother up until his passing. He loved sports; however the casino, dog racing, and wine tasting were his favorite hobbies. He had a knack for technology and gathering information which naturally made him excel at his job at First Merit for 22 years as a Senior tech before retiring in 2012. Although his personality was quiet and reserved, you knew he was a force that would not be reckoned with!
He is preceded in death by his father Coolidge Collins Sr. Sisters: Sharon, Carrie, and Betty Jo. Brother; Thatist (Duckie). He will be greatly missed by his children: James, Darrin, Stacy, Sherlon, and Coolidge(Candace) III. Grandchildren: James Jr., De’Imani ($), KyRonda, DreShawn, JaSonte, Penelope, Kayleigh, Ayden, Uriah, and 7 great-grandchildren. Mother, Eloise McDonald. Sister: Sylvia Thomas; Brothers: Jimmie (Vicky), and Chris Collins. Along with a host of family and friends.
Matthew 11:28- Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
