Charlie E. Estes, 95, went home to be with the Lord on July 2, 2023 after a brief illness. He was born February 4, 1928 in Gadsden, Alabama , the son of the late Joseph and Della Estes. Charlie served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. He later worked at General Tire and then retired from the City of Akron. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school and helped with the “Wonderful Wednesday’s” Program. He also volunteered for the American Kidney Foundation. Charlie will always be remembered as a man who was devoted to his family and his faith.
Charlie is preceded in death by his wife June Estes; his son Joseph Estes, sisters Myrtle Estes, and Louise Jones; sisters and Brothers-In-Law Gussie and Raymond
Hightower, Juanette and Kenneth Gilligan; Brothers and Sisters-In-Law John Wesley (J.W.) and Lucy Estes, Curtis and Jean Estes, Benjamin (Frank) and Almeda Estes, Clyde and Vera Higginbotham, Eugene and Eileen Nagy.
He is survived by his daughter Sandra Estes; daughter-in-law Kimberly Estes; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the Adams Mason Funeral Home (791 East Market Street), where funeral services will immediately follow at 11:00 AM. Rev. William Kremer and Dr. Rev. Howard Pippen will officiate. Charlie will be laid to rest with his wife June at Hillside Memorial Park “Together Forever”. Private interment.
