Charles William Sutton, born on July 12, 1941, in Washington D.C., passed away on September 21, 2024 in Akron, Ohio. He lived a life dedicated to his family, career, and community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Charles enjoyed a distinguished career, retiring from General Motors after nearly three decades of service. He also owned and operated C&S Drain, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. Throughout his life, he was known for his unwavering commitment to his family. A loving husband to Sue, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years, Charles was a proud father to Todd, Rodd, Troy, Winnie, and Kimberly. He welcomed his daughter-in-law Mari and sons-in-law, Ron and Darren, into the family with open arms, embracing all as cherished members of his household.
As a beloved "Papa," Charles took immense joy in supporting his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sporting endeavors. His enthusiasm was boundless, and he spent endless hours cheering them on at various events.
He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his grandchildren Kyndal, Brooke (Brian), Joey, Tylar (Andrew), Chemy (Jason), Kiaya (Nick), TJ (Erica), Caitlin (Alex), Veronica (Kurt), Cara’Renee, and Hannah. His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren Kaidyn, Joss, Ethan, Wyatt, Kiera, Dean, Elliana, Emersyn, Lorin, Tripp, Henley, Lennon, Indi, Asher, and Emmett. Charles will also be remembered fondly by his loving dogs Meghan and Harry and his cat Boo.
Community involvement was another hallmark of Charles's life. He and Sue were deeply engaged in local activities, having run the East Bantams and started the Central Flyers. Their dedication to giving back was evident in their work running a bingo hall that provided donations to multiple Akron Public high schools and youth organizations, positively impacting many lives. Charles also proudly served as a Troop Leader with the Boy Scouts, further enriching the community around him.
Though Charles has been reunited with his deceased family members, including his mother and father Winnie Smith and Gerald Sutton, stepfather Melvin Smith, siblings Patricia, Gary, Janet, Mary, and Tony, as well as step-siblings Paul, Wilma, and Lester, daughter-in-law BJ, and great-granddaughter London, his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
Charles William Sutton will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments and community service but also for his boundless love, support, and encouragement for his family. He truly was a remarkable man and will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
The family would like to thank Transitions Hospice for all of their help and care. And the wonderful family friends that visited and prayed over Charles in his final days.
At his request, no services will be held; his family will be holding a private memorial service.
