Charles E Smith Sr

Charles E. Smith, Sr. age 82 of Akron, Ohio passed away September 12, 2023.  He was born in Akron on December 23, 1940, to William E. Smith and Doris McDaniel, both deceased.

Charles (Chuck) attended Garfield High School and lived in the Akron area all his life. He was an active member of his church Home Missionary Baptist Church.  Chuck married his wife, Juanita Smith in 1973. They celebrated their 50 years of marriage this past July after 56 years together as a couple.  He worked many years in the furniture business as an upholsterer.  He is well known for his attention to detail with sophisticated patterns of fabric.  In his spare time, Chuck liked to draw and paint, especially subjects that included nature, religious and his favorite cartoon characters such as Donald Duck.  He had an interesting flavor palette which included limburger cheese, eating raw onions like an apple, and his favorite black licorice candy.  Chuck always supported his family, friends and neighbors, especially in times of sickness or other needs.  He knew what methods would help him relax and chill; which he perfected over time.  Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, son and friend.

Chuck is survived by his children Michele “Sis” (Chris) Wolf, Jeff (Laurie) Miller, and Rick (Christine) Miller; his grandchildren, Scott Miller, Maxwell (Hannah) Miller, Clayton Miller, William (Carly) Long Jr., Dominic Long, Ricky Miller Jr., and Christopher Miller; his great-grandchildren Quinton Miller and Lily Miller; and his brother Sam Curatolo.

He was preceded in death by his son Charles E. Smith, Jr., son Timothy Smith, mother Doris (Sam) Curatolo and father William Smith.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Chuck’s church:   Home Missionary Baptist Church (1922 Oakes Dr., Akron, Ohio. 44312) on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 2-3 pm.  Following the church service will be a dinner event.  Donations can be made in Memory of Charles Smith to the Home Missionary Baptist Church.
